The Giant Panda Research Centre was founded in 1978 to try and save pandas from extinction.

First discovered 100 years ago there are now only a 1000 pandas left in the world. Half of those are in captivity. Panda preservation is a major concern to the Chinese. Anyone caught killing a panda can expect to be executed.

“Chan Mae, Hey Chan Mae, Oh! What big paws you have. Oh! Look at you. Oh…..Wow..!”
Chan Mae was only a year old, his teeth are not yet long enough to be dangerous.
“This is the quintessential China experience wrestling with a real live panda bear.”
Beyond the crowds China still has dramatic open spaces.

“Even as a kid I used to see Chinese paintings and wondered where in the world is a landscape like that and here it is. This is so beautiful.”
These are the sand stone pillars of the Wu Guilin Yuan forests around Zhong Jiao Zhi and Hunan province. The Zhi Man Ting mountain range is dotted with displays with Tibetan prayer flags. Wong Woh Shu waterfalls in Whizhu province are the largest in Asia. The Whi Chi Yen River drifts slowly between Dragon’s Teeth peaks of the Guong zhong region.
